GIS Conference 2007 opened the door to new access
Sixth annual GIS Conference outlined new trends and in some fields disproved old truths.
On 19th and 20th June 2007, after two years, a community of specialists in the field of geospatial IT solutions met at the traditional GIS Conference held in the pleasant environment of Hotel Kaskády near Sliač. For the sixth time, including this year, the Conference was supported by the main organiser, YMS a.s., as well as by technology and media partners.
The presentations were orientated towards technological innovations from the workshops of software producers and suppliers of specialised data, as well as towards particular solutions in various fields of their application. The presentations covered a wide spectrum of topics, from new dimensions of the real estate register and other applications for State administration, management of new technological units in spaces, to special application of a navigation information system whilst increasing safety and improving traffic on roads and rivers.
In some cases, the Conference proved earlier assumptions that the latest technological advancement dramatically changes the view of spatial information, as well as in previously narrowly specialised or conservative fields such as river craft navigation or real estate register.
It is a well known fact that GPS receivers are used nowadays in various areas of data collection and personal navigation. It remains a surprise to many that such use is only a part of the wider concept of including live flows of geospatial data from various types of sensors into a traditionally static and rarely upgraded database of spatial information systems.
This gives an entirely new view of operations or wider options for use of already existing systems.
The Conference has proven the trend of specialisation, globalisation and easier access to geospatial information as well as continuously widening acceptance of such solutions by IT professionals, knowledgeable public and a wide range of common users.
