New trends at GIS Ostrava
The traditional international symposium GIS Ostrava 2006, on which also representatives of YMS, a.s. Trnava participated, was held on 23 to 25 January, 2006.
The symposium, organized by the Mining University – Technical University Ostrava, was designed for the broad professional public of users of IT and GIS solutions and its leitmotiv was “Informatics for Geoinformatics.”
During the three-day conference, the partifcipants could take part in ten themes and choose from eight working seminars.
A great majority of presentations focused on open-source solutions and programming techniques, among which the company presentations of Intergraph (partner of YMS) and Thales Navigation Inc. were outstanding.
From among foreign participants, we can mention the presentation of the US company NOBEL-SYSTEMS presented by Mr. Michael Samuel, the managing director and CEO of this company, himself. The presentation aimed at presentation of the company portfolio focused on water management and sewage.
The traditional GIS related topics, i.e. problems of spatial analyses and syntheses as well as visualization of spatial data, were not missing.
The GIS Ostrava event fulfills an irreplaceable role of mediator of new trends – not only the technological ones but those in thinking, as well. Solution of the problem of geoinformation technologies means not only to know, but to understand the problem, as well. GIS Ostrava is of huge contribution from this point of view and the acquired practical and theoretical experience will enable the participants of symposium to implement new knowledge in practice and improve the quality of process of creation of information systems.
