Business Need/Reason
Problem was unclear situation of information database, need for more efficient processes control and information processing.
- VIS should represent a single information system for all parties taking care of health and welfare of livestock in hundreds of farms throughout the country.
- VIS will interconnect an enormous amount of varied and scattered information into a modern, comprehensive and intuitive system available to all partners online, anywhere, including fieldwork.
- VIS is meant to provide an overview of the current status of all farms throughout the country and should help to prevent proliferation of infectious diseases.
- VIS is about to be an interaction tool for international veterinary information systems and thus will contribute to better European control of health and welfare of livestock.
Solution Overview
Portal modular solution covering process planning and veterinary activities reporting under significant support of geospatial data. VIS resolves complex cooperation among parties caring for health and welfare of farm animals; radically modernises the work of veterinary practitioners; and pushes the State Veterinary Administration to a whole new information and technological level.

Results
One of key contributions of VIS is mutual integration ability to the control and information systems of European Union in the field of international animal transport and infection incidents reporting.
- VIS – One System for All - YMS Group created and enhanced a specialised veterinary information system, which supports efficient cooperation between the partners taking care of health and welfare of livestock – farmers, veterinary doctors and the State Veterinary and Food Administration. Veterinary information system operates with the most advanced parameters and allows the partners to use one system providing current information on all farms and fulfilling country-specific legislative requirements.
- VIS – a Veterinary Electronic Office - for farmers and veterinary doctors VIS represents an upgrade to modern, electronic viewing and processing of data as well as to automatisation of routine work operations. VIS contains all data on farm operations, animal health, animal origin and animal transportation routes, as well as infectious diseases and steps taken to contain them. Moreover, veterinary doctors working on farms utilise the system as a mobile veterinary electronic office – helping to create personal operation plans and checking their execution in time. Veterinary information system supports doctors with a variety of other functions, including automatic data update, standardised catalogue of veterinary operations, personal stock administration as well as automatic calculation and dispatch of monthly invoices. In a recent innovation the system was enhanced by a modern online laboratory section, through which doctors access results of requested laboratory tests straight after these are put into the system by the laboratory staff.
- VIS – a Plug on Proliferation of Infections - VIS is an important managerial tool for the State Veterinary Administration. It provides current and comprehensive data on farms as well as on operations of contracted veterinary doctors. Moreover, VIS comprehensively processes data on infectious diseases of livestock. Infected farms are displayed in GIS and automatically transferred into „protection zone“. The State Veterinary Administration instantly identifies and monitors outbreaks of infectious diseases and quickly detects similar problems in different farms. This allows faster and efficient decisions about steps to contain them. In addition, VIS pulls information from international information systems ADNS and TRACES. This makes VIS an important building block in the European wall of prevention from proliferation of infectious veterinary diseases.
- VIS – the Architecture - architecture of the system mirrors it complexity. VIS allows each user to only access the specific data that are required for his or her work. For example, farms access data about their operations, veterinary doctors actively use data on farms and animals while entering operations into the system and the State Veterinary Administration benefits from a complex overview of the veterinary situation in the country. That is one of the reasons why the user interface remains comprehensive and intuitive. The VIS is accessible through a web browser wherever and whenever. The system contains a geographic information system, which localises farms, highlights outbreaks of livestock disease and enables spatial orientation during fieldwork. Because VIS is a modern and open system, it is easily expanded or interconnected with other systems.
